DC-Provenance workshop announcement

(Apologies for cross-posting)

Hi all,

the DCMI Metadata Provenance Task Group will be organizing its first workshop at DC-2010 in Pittsburgh (http://www.asis.org/Conferences/DC2010/). There, we hope to accomplish two things: to provide some context about the larger discussion on provenance that is currently taking place in the metadata and Web worlds at large, and to discuss and work collaboratively on common problems that attendees have with metadata provenance, administrative metadata, or metametadata.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The first part will focus on the motivation and goals of the group and the bigger picture issues of provenance. During the second part, we will split up into breakout groups and try to focus the discussion on issues brought up by the attendees, e.g., problems of acquiring or persisting information source, associated rights, or accrual method in metadata that is consumed, managed, or published.

The results of the workshop should form the basis of the work plan of the Task Group going forward. In addition, we would like to use the workshop to start an informal call for use cases from metadata practitioners inside and outside of the Dublin Core user community.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh!

Early registration has been extended to Friday, September 17, so it is still possible to take advantage of early-bird rates.

All the best,

Michael Panzer

Kai Eckert
