Humanity has the economic means, technological know-how, and global communication networks we need to tackle large-scale global environmental problems now, argue the speakers of Earthscan's next earthcast.
This earthcast will present a model for combining economic growth with reduced environmental pressures and discuss evidence from each of the major resource intensive sectors (including transport, building, cement, steel and agriculture) where significant resource productivity improvements are available.
Who is it for?
This Earthcast is aimed at policy makers, researchers, economists, engineers, business leaders, educators as well as those involved in improving resource productivity in energy and water intensive sectors.
The Speakers
Karlson 'Charlie' Hargroves is a co-founder and Director of The Natural Edge Project<http://www.naturaledgeproject.net/About.aspx> (TNEP). In 2005 Charlie spent 12 months on secondment as the CEO of Natural Capitalism Inc, USA, with Hunter Lovins, and is an Associate Member of the Club of Rome. Charlie and the TNEP team have developed a number of internationally renowned books on sustainable development, including their award-winning flagship title The Natural Advantage of Nations: Business Opportunities, Innovation and Governance in the 21st Century<http://www.earthscan.co.uk/?tabid=872> (Earthscan 2005).
Cheryl Desha is the Deputy Director of The Natural Edge Project<http://www.naturaledgeproject.net/About.aspx> (TNEP), and a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at Griffith University, Australia. In 2005 Cheryl was selected as the Engineers Australia Young Professional Engineer of the Year and participated in the Australian Prime Ministers 2020 Summit. Working with the TNEP team Cheryl has co-authored a number of books, online textbooks and education materials, focusing on raising awareness and capacity building for sustainable development across the built environment professions.
