*Trainee Archivist (12 month contract from September 2010)* Ref: JS298 Salary: c £18,500pa Guardian News & Media has a vacancy for a Trainee Archivist to assist the Archivist with the day to day running of the GNM Archive. The role covers a wide range of duties including answering enquiries from external researchers and Guardian and Observer staff, and undertaking cataloguing projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to gain experience before applying to study for a postgraduate qualification in archives and records management. Candidates must have excellent IT and communication skills, the ability to work unsupervised and as a member of a team, and an understanding and interest in modern history and current affairs. Some previous archive experience is desirable and would demonstrate a commitment to a career in this field. The GNM Archive preserves and makes accessible records relating to the histories of the Guardian and Observer newspapers.
