The student may well find the presentation difficult.

It is not just the presentation of numerical, statistical or symbolic information that would be a problem, although this is likely to cause a great deal of anxiety, as would the thought of having to respond to any questions on such material.

The idea of presenting in a logical sequence may be difficult as will the timing of the presentation – frequently, students with dyscalculia have difficulty with telling the time and estimating duration.

Hi all,

I have had a student contact me saying he can’t do presentations because of his dyscalculia.

He has a Needs Assessment and this doesn’t say that he will find presentations difficult or should be given an alternative form of assessment (it just says it may take him longer to plan what he is going to say). I would go back and ask the needs Assessor for their opinion, but it was done 3 years ago, which is quite a long time.

Does anyone have any experience of students with dyscalculia having particular problems with presentations?

Best wishes,

Alison
