medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I thought Carr was wonderful when I read it, but after a career as an archivist and academic I'm more of an Eltonite. Mind you, the one time I actually met the great Sir Geoffrey was pretty disastrous!
But the point I was making a sideswipe at was that (as the Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke is a key text in its field) the 'book called What Is History' is still a key text in the debate about what it is that we are actually doing. Both it and Elton's The Practice of History have been recently republished with new introductions and undergraduates still cut their teeth on them.

Best wishes

I too read EH Carr and he nearly put me off History all together.  GR Elton had a book out at the same time - The Practice of History - which appealed to me much more - but I cannot now remember what he said!

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Hello

Bishop Christopher was my contemporary at Leicester, so I can ask him about the state of play.

Does anyone know what has happened to the site on Easter sepulchres which the last bishop of St Albans put together? He apparently said he was going to develop it in retirement but it's no longer at its old URL and I can't track it down.

cheers
Maddy
