medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Gee, I was wondering if the slightly less intrusive custom of displaying the sheets from the wedding night (and keeping them as a legal exhibit) was a toned-down polite fiction for those who thought the crowded bedroom too gross.

While this might have occurred somewhere it was certainly NOT the norm.  
My guess is that this is one of those "barbaric middle ages" myths, but if so, it's a new one to me.  Best, Megan
