Many people are likely to do it much more directly by using an unencrypted wifi. (Or if you believe the tempest-type hackers, using wifi at all).
Unencrypted WiFi is inexcusable nowadays.  But WiFi is not really a thing Joe Public is able to set up, despite many claims that it's easy.  Most folk have no idea what the buzzwords mean.

And that public wireless hotspot "you" just used.  How secure was what you did there?  Did you check your bank balance?  And if so, how confident are you that you haven't let the hotspot owner into your bank account?
