PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY Climate change threatens to spiral out of control and become unstoppable. There may already be too much carbon in the atmosphere, and runaway climate change could kill billions of people, to say nothing of making most other species extinct. The only rational response is a target of ‘a zero carbon world, as fast as we can’. This would be the ideal outcome of the UN climate summit in Copenhagen this December. But the negotiations look unlikely to deliver this at present, so we need a massive show of public opinion to get the negotiators to change course and come up with a treaty which does justice to the urgency of the situation. The Zero Carbon Caravan www.zerocarboncaravan.net aims to galvanise the public to pressure the negotiators, by showing that it is perfectly possible to have a zero carbon lifestyle, and that it’s fun, by getting to the talks without fossil fuels, visiting inspiring places like the Centre for Alternative Technology <www.cat.org.uk>, and holding zero carbon conferences, festivals and concerts on the way. And it’s a relay, so you don’t have to go all the way to Copenhagen – just cycle with us into the next town on our journey if you like.
