Position summary
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol at the World Resources Institute is looking
for a highly motivated person to help in the development of new guidelines for
supply chain and product life cycle greenhouse gas accounting. The Associate
will work closely with the GHG Protocol team in the development and
implementation of these guidelines. Additional tasks may include assisting with
other projects related to corporate greenhouse gas accounting.
The GHG Protocol (www.ghgprotocol.org) is the most widely
used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to
understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. The GHG Protocol, a
decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World
Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses,
governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation
of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change.
Major responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise on existing standards, technical
resources, and studies on:
- Life cycle assessment (LCA),
- Product-level carbon footprinting, and
- Corporate supply chain accounting and disclosure.
- Provide summaries and analysis on key LCA issues and
challenges
- Draft white papers on key LCA accounting
issues
- Draft and edit sections of the new GHG Protocol
standards
- Manage and facilitate 1-2 technical working groups developing
new guidelines on product life cycle GHG accounting, by preparing technical
inputs, convening meetings and conference calls, preparing meeting agendas,
preparing meeting summaries, etc.
- Coordinate multi-stakeholder engagement in standard
development process, including frequent communication with a wide range of
stakeholders
- Coordinate document review processes including compiling and
synthesizing comments from a wide range of stakeholders
- Assist in fundraising activities including preparing funding
proposals
- Assist in organizing workshops
- Assist with day-to-day project management tasks, such as
coordinating team meetings and conference calls
Qualifications
- At least 3-5 years of professional work experience related to
life cycle assessment.
- Masters degree in a relevant field, or equivalent
experience
- Knowledge and strong interest in greenhouse gas accounting and
the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting
and Reporting Standard
- Excellent research, writing, analysis, and communications
skills
- Attention to detail and high level of organization
- Interest in and knowledge of climate change and energy issues
- Excellent English-language written and oral communication
skills
- Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work both
independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed
