italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies **Please circulate** WHERE ARE WE NOW? A WORKSHOP ON WOMEN & HETEROSEXUALITY Thu 5 - Fri 6 March 2009 at the IGRS, Stewart House, 32 Russell Square WC1B 5DN In 1949 Simone de Beauvoir began The Second Sex with the words 'Enough ink has been spilled over the quarrel of feminism; it's pretty much closed now - let us say no more about it'. Sixty years later, the quarrel continues. A spirit of optimism and activism reigned for women born around 1950 and entering maturity together with the feminist movement in 1969. Where are those women now and where are the generations of women that have followed? This women's workshop consists of six plenary sessions and two break-out sessions, with the focus on open discussion throughout. Twenty-three women from 20 to 70 present their views on: * Work in the workplace/work in the home * The couple bond * The personal still political? * Cultural differences * The female body * Generations of women * The F-word * Heteronormativity and after * Consciousness-raising in the blogosphere For more information on speakers, programme and registration: http://igrs.sas.ac.uk/index.php?id=318 <http://igrs.sas.ac.uk/index.php?id=318> or contact Flo Austin at [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> Flo Austin Institute Administrator Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies School of Advanced Study, University of London Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU Tel: 020 7862 8677; fax 020 7862 8672 Web: http://igrs.sas.ac.uk <http://igrs.sas.ac.uk> NB Please be aware that I work part-time - Tues/Wed/Thurs - so there may be some delay in responding to your email ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: join italian-studies YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: leave italian-studies to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/italian-studies.html
