Thank you to all who responded, the information gathered is enlightening.

Rates inevitable vary according to room size and whether facilities are charged for or included. None of the responses were from private organisations' archives.

Summary:

Scotland
Larger rooms (no capacity given) from £18 to £25 half day/ £35 to £50 full days.
Smaller rooms range from £8 (three hours) to £10 (three hours).

*	No variation between community groups/ charities or other organisations
*	Included in the higher range are coffee making facilities/ use of kitchen facilities.
*	In the lower range, a/v facilities display boards and flipcharts carry an additional charge (£2.50 to £6 per day).
*	A surcharge to cover staffing applies to out of hours bookings.


England (North & Midlands)
Rooms vary from 10 people (not necessarily at the lower end of the fee range given) to capacities of up to 45 people seated in a theatre style layout (not necessarily at the top end of the fee range given).

Community groups/ charities: £10 to £60 for a half day/ £20 to £100 for a full day (week days) 
Other organisations: £30 to £120 half day/ £60 to 200 full day (week days)
Where a separate weekend rate was given, they varied between £8.50 per hour to £80 full day, with no concessions for groups.

*	Included in the higher range are a/v facilities, flipcharts and pens etc.
*	Lower range tends to charge for such items (an example being £3.50 for a/v equipment)
*	Refreshment provision varies, with some having kitchen facilities and others charging 50p per head for tea/ coffee or £7 for use of an urn and crockery.
*	The charges for community groups tend to be negotiable, and may be waived. There is some variation between whether the services connected to councils are able to charge the council departments for use of the space.
*	A surcharge applies for staffing costs on out-of hours bookings.


England (South)
Larger rooms (40 to 60 capacity)
Community groups/ charities: £65 - £195 half day/ £130 - £295 full day
Other organisations: £65 - £235 half day/ £130 - £340 full day

Smaller rooms (up to 20)
Community groups/ charities: £80 half day/ £130 full day
Other orgs: £100 half day/ £160 full day

*	What is included varies, does not correspond to lower/ higher price ranges. Facilities such as laptops and projectors are at most £100 to hire for the day down to free.
*	Refreshment provision is either not provided or ranges from £1 to £2 per person.
*	Staff time is considered in the pricing policies for setting up and clearing away.
*	Discounts are offered at one service for multiple bookings, at another the fee can be waived if the group meets certain specific criteria.
