An exciting opportunity to share ideas, be inspired by case studies, and participate in practical workshops to explore new ways of engaging people with collections. This conference will be relevant to all in local studies, archives and museums.
Presentations will include:
Dr John Hunt, author of ‘Local History in the Community: whose agenda?’ giving a thought provoking overview of developments in the field of adult and community learning.
Sue Mayo, author of ‘Creativity, Heritage and having a good time’, sharing her experiences of intergenerational learning, including the Sutton House Over 55s project.
Jenny Kidd, author of ‘Performance, Learning and Heritage’, facilitating a workshop based on a research project using interactive performance to engage people with collections
Maureen Burns, winner of the 2008 McCulla award for excellence in local studies, showcasing a project aimed at bringing residents together to share their roots.
Pam Riding and Linda Smith: sharing a case study using a wonderful local story to celebrate with the under 5s.
Peter Daniel and Camilla Bergman: highlighting work with diverse communities using the story of Britain’s first black footballer.
Tracey Williams: practical look at how to get your collections on ‘You Tube’.
Daphne Knott: exploring ‘Archive Adventures’, practical activities for family learning
There will also be an opportunity to share in breakout groups and discuss what is happening in your area.
Cost: £50 (£60 for non-members) including lunch and optional tour of TNA
