Dear all We currently have 3 projects running here at Birmingham Archives which are funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Our partner in these projects, the University of Birmingham, is hosting the following conference in collaboration with the ARRH and others. The intention is to disseminate information about funding and collaborative opportunities to the archive sector and other practitioners. Best wishes Sian Sian Roberts Head of Collections Development Birmingham Archives and Heritage Sharing Knowledge, Shaping Practice Knowledge Transfer in the Arts and Humanities A one day symposium at the School of Education, University of Birmingham 11am-4pm May 5th 2009 The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University and Museums, Libraries and Archives (MLA) West would like to invite you to this jointly hosted day of discussions and workshops around the theme of Knowledge Transfer. The AHRC is committed to encouraging researchers to disseminate and transfer their knowledge to areas beyond academia where it can make a difference. Arts and humanities subject domains have a huge contribution to make to the economic, social and cultural life of the UK, so one of the key elements of AHRC’s role is to ensure UK businesses and other non- academic organisations can benefit from the research it funds. One of the main ways the AHRC does this is through Knowledge Transfer, the process in which knowledge is co-produced through interactions between academic and non- academic individuals and communities. This symposium will offer delegates: • a choice of workshops to discuss successful AHRC-funded Knowledge Transfer projects, • workshop sessions on funding opportunities building partnerships, managing projects and consideration of impact issues. • an open plenary session providing opportunities to ask questions about issues arising throughout the day. • opportunities to network and forge new contacts. The event is free but places are limited to sixty delegates. Refreshments and a light lunch will be available.
