I'd recommend a thorough assessment of nature, triggers and stability of
his asthma and have a decent chat with his manager about the nature of
the confined space work, risk to the worker and others in the event of
an untoward incident etc.

We've cleared some asthmatics for confined space work because the risk
assessment process has shown a low risk to the employee, plant and
others (ie potential rescuers) but in other areas not passed some due to
increased risk

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Asthma and confined space working

Hi all

I have a worker who is 19yo and asthmatic on becotide inhaler bd. Does
this exclude him from working in confined spaces i.e.
tunnelling/augerboring - laying sewage pipes.

Many thanks

Helen
