The United Nations Population Division is making available to the public its Global Migration Database on the number ("stock") of international migrants by country of enumeration and country of birth, citizenship, sex and age - comprising over 2,200 data sets from over 200 countries and territories in the world, collected between 1975 and 2008, including metadata. The data are derived from population censuses, population registers, nationally representative sample surveys and other official statistical sources. During the current test phase, access to the United Nations Global Migration Database will be restricted. Requests for access can be submitted through the web link http://esa.un.org/unmigration. Our aim is to make this database as comprehensive as possible. Information on the availability of tabulations not included in the database is welcome and may be sent to [log in to unmask] so that they can be considered for future inclusion. The Population Division acknowledges the financial support from UNICEF and UNDP South-South Unit in developing the database. Data were contributed by the United Nations Statistics Division (DESA), the World Bank, the University of Sussex and the Minnesota Population Center (IPUMS-I). ------------------------ Bela Hovy, Chief Migration Section Population Division United Nations New York NY 10017 [log in to unmask] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Note: The material contained in this communication comes to you from the Forced Migration Discussion List which is moderated by the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), Oxford Department of International Development, University of Oxford.
