On Friday 31 October 2008 the Business Archives Council of Scotland in collaboration with Glasgow Museums are holding a one day conference "Scotland's Energy: from Coal to Renewables" to take place at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

This conference will examine the sources and supply of Scotland's Energy since 1945 and into the future.  Speakers will discuss both the economic and social implications of these developments.  An underlying theme will be the identification of primary source materials for the study of these industries which are a significant part of Scotland's economic and cultural story.

The programme includes:
- Glasgow Museums and its Resources for Industrial History (Dr Martin Bellamy, Glasgow Museums)
- The Scottish Coal Mining Industry since 1945 (Dr Miles Oglethorpe, Historic Scotland)
- Energy and Industrial Politics: the Miners' Strikes of 1972, 1974 and 1984-5 (Dr Jim Phillips, University of Glasgow)
- Electricity Generation Policy in Scotland since 1945 (Dr Martin Chick, University of Edinburgh)
- Resources of RCAHMS for the Study of the Electricity Industry (Miriam McDonald, RCAHMS)
- Capturing the Energy: A North Sea Documentation Project (Siobhan Convery, University of Aberdeen)
- Combining Resources (John Holt, Glasgow Caledonian University)
- Renewable Energies: Collecting for the Future (Rowan Brown, National Museums Scotland)

As part of the conference, Dr Alex Kemp, Schlumberger Professor of Petroleum History, University of Aberdeen, will give the annual Joan Auld Lecture on the subject of the Scottish Oil and Gas Industry.

Cost:  BACS members £15, Non-members £20.  A number of free places are available to students/un-waged on a first-come basis.
