medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

You'll see a great example of your phrase "in action," demons pulling a soul in every which way at:
http://www.art-roman.net/vezelay/vezelay9.htm
Scroll down to the capital incorrectly identified by the webmaster as "Les Sacrifices de l'ancienne loi." It is part of the Saint Paul/Saint Anthony capital and actually portrays the Torment of Saint Anthony. Saint Paul looks on as three demons are pulling Anthony in different directions. And, yes, the webmaster has been notified of this error but evidently declines to correct it. He contends that there are those who agree with him but has failed to cite a single art historian in his camp.
