UCL Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics Research Assistant / Research Associate in Epidemiology We are seeking a full time research assistant / research associate in epidemiology or biostatistics. The project involves analyses of data from a cohort study of children with cancer and suspected bacterial infection and a series of systematic reviews on interventions for central line infections. The project will use decision analytic methods to synthesise evidence from these different sources to undertake a clinical effectiveness analysis of strategies for diagnosing and treating suspected central line infection in children with cancer. The results will inform best practice and be used to develop a protocol for a randomised controlled trial. The post is funded by the NIHR Health Technology Assessment Programme and offers an excellent opportunity for a researcher to work on an important clinical topic combining methods for evaluating diagnostic tests and interventions. The post is a joint initiative between the Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the UCL Institute of Child Health and Barts and the London NHS Trust. All applicants must have an MSc or equivalent in statistics, epidemiology, health economics or a related subject and be able to combine a sound understanding of study design with skills in meta-analysis and decision analytic modelling. Salary will be dependant on qualifications and experience: Research Assistant will be at Grade 6 from £23,692 - £25,135 per annum; Research Associate will be £27,466 per annum on Grade 7 of the UCL salary scales. London Weighting of £2,649 per annum is paid in addition per annum. The appointment is funded until 30 September 2009.
