i have had nice success running on mac (both on ppc and intel hardware). you get the power of unix and the interface of the mac. you can also get FSL if that fancies you.

more ram is better. 

my mac laptop is 2.6 ghz intel duo with 4 gig of ram and 320 gig hard drive.
