Context folly is a leading digital arts organisation, based in the North West of England. folly's Portable Pixel Playground will be an innovative and physical new play space that is intrinsically digital. The playground will be a modular set of equipment and creative projects for use in public settings such as shopping centres, galleries and schools. The concept is a radical evolutionary development of folly's existing follyplay events which feature laptops, computer kiosks and interactive projections on walls, floors and ceilings. The Pixel Playground will encourage young people to use everyday technologies in new and creative ways, providing them with interactive, physical and hands-on new experiences of art and technology. folly is developing the playground over the next 2 years by working with artists, staff and technologists supported by the funding from The Big Lottery Fund as part of their "Playful Ideas" Programme. ArtCast: Open Call for Podcastable Art folly, a leading digital arts organisation working in Cumbria, Lancashire and online, is looking for video and audio work for ArtCast, folly's ongoing series of podcasting programmes. Through ArtCast folly explores the possibilities of the podcasting medium and provides a platform for public access to new and innovative art. ArtCast launched in October 2007 alongside folly's VELOCITY festival of digital culture, with a series of audio podcasts selected from an international open call. This series is available to download from www.folly.co.uk/artcast and has been described as "outstanding" and "unique" by those who have experienced it. Since folly first started publishing podcastable content, nearly 15000 people have experienced art in this format via www.folly.co.uk In April 2008 folly will release the second ArtCast series, in collaboration with the moves08 festival - www.movementonscreen.org.uk Building on moves07's success in positioning itself as a key platform for the industry and audiences interested in screen-based work exploring 'choreographed movement', moves returns for the fourth year in Manchester, Lancaster, Chester and Liverpool. Taking place 22-26 April 2008, moves08 will showcase a three-day conference focusing on the interaction of choreographed movement and sound in screen-based work, seven international screenings including a North West showcase, a five-day filmmaking lab throughout the North West, a masterclass, live events and installations in Manchester, Lancaster, and Liverpool. A programme of work curated for the BBC Big Screens will also be showing throughout the UK. Through its Discovery strand, moves08 will give a special place to students and emerging artists. For April's ArtCast series, folly is calling for submissions of existing moving image and audio work, from the broad spectrum of contemporary arts practice. Submissions should address themes and subjects broadly relating to the theme of moves08: the interaction of choreographed movement and sound. Submissions are welcome from all artists working with film, video, moving image or sound, dancers and choreographers, experimental musicians and composers, writers and performance artists etc, basically anyone who has created work which they consider to be suitable for a video or audio podcast. folly welcomes submissions from international artists The deadline for submissions is 29th February 2008 moves08 Festival Director, Pascale Moyse, and Award-winning filmmaker and moves' board member, Rachel Davies, will join folly in the selection of works in early March 2008. Successful submissions will be published as podcasts from 3rd April 2008 Please note that there is no fee available for selected works.
