Who are the agents involved in key processes of transformation such as the tensions and opportunities emerging from EU enlargement, the complexities of migration, and the cultural modalities of religion and language? The Colloquium will explore these issues in the context of post 9/11 geopolitical changes, the imposition of new neo-liberal economic disciplines, and looming ecological pressures on the European model of affluence and progress, and explore the nature and potential of possible alternative sources of development. This is an occasion for innovative thinking on counter- hegemonic initiatives in Europe and on the agencies and institutions most likely to figure in any such pressures for change. Invited speakers will address these questions in plenary and panel sessions.
