Which handwriting? My uninformed hearsay
recollection is that Aquinas could write a chicken-scratch half-shorthand that
is a bear to read but also had a more civilized hand. The desire to avoid
dealing with the former, while still explaining the philosopher’s
productivity, might lie at the root of the story that Aquinas could dictate different
works simultaneously to multiple scribes.
I hope that some knowledgeable Neo-Scholastic
on the list might be able clarify the truth behind the above legends.

Subject: [M-R] jpeg of Aquinas's
autograph?
Hi all,
Does there exist anywhere a clear jpeg of the handwriting of Thomas
Aquinas? Failing that, is there a clear image on the net of a sample page of
the Summa Theol., or indeed of any other of his works? I'm teaching a class and
would like to use these as props ...
best, George
(There *is* an image at http://www.innerexplorations.com/catchmeta/3.htm,
but it is very fuzzy ...)
