Dear Colleagues, On Wed, 14 Mar 2007 14:24:14 +0000 Sara Somerville asked the following: We are in the process of procuring an EDRMS and we have started to look at what Metadata we want to capture and begun to consider the questions around taxonomy and thesaurus/controlled vocabulary. It would be really helpful to get an idea of what standards (if any) people are using (Dublin Core? e-GMS? IPSV?) and how useful you've found them. It would also be good to know if you feel you need a defined taxonomy in an EDRMS; given that there will be a defined file plan. Once could find the work done at the Griffiths University of New South Wales in Australia with their published online Business Classification Scheme located @ http://www.griffith.edu.au/ua/aa/secretariat/carms/bcs/index.htm of value as a guide to the way a taxonomy and thesaurus/controlled vocabulary could be designed and created to allow for internal and possible external publication of a taxonomy and thesaurus/controlled vocabulary plus a linked retention and disposal authority. How does one achieve this level of sophistication from the ground up without the project outliving the working life of the creator? Well the answer is simple this online work was created with the use of a 3rd party software tool. So as to not to be charged with commercialisation on this listserv if anyone has an interest in this powerful Classification plus its linked Retention & Disposal software tool they may care to contact me directly for further details. I trust that this information is of value to Sara and also to other members of this listserv. Happy RMing!
