Technical Specialist, World War One Digital Poetry Archive
Grade:
7
Salary: £25,633 - £31,525
2 year contract in the first
instance
OUCS has recently received substantial funding from the Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC) to develop a digital repository of
World War One poetry. The repository will consist predominantly of
digital images of primary source material (manuscripts and letters) from
major poets, plus contextual information (images, video, audio) from the
Imperial War Museum. It will innovatively show how these can be embedded
in teaching, and open up the archive for remote deposit via its
"Community Collection". We are looking to recruit a Technical Specialist
to work within our small team to design and develop the technical
infrastructure of the digital repository, and to assist with the overall
planning of activities and the definition of work plans for technical
development. Other duties include writing technical reports and acting
as a point of reference to any external technical developers or
designers. Applicants must have a degree or equivalent experience. They
must have practical experience in some of the following: processing XML
for display on the web, digital repository technologies,
interoperability, Linux environments, Apache, Tomcat, PHP. A knowledge
of on-line learning and First World War literature would be
advantageous. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part
of a team will be required, together with the organizational ability
necessary to undertake and prioritise a variety of duties.
