'...there was even an item on the early evening BBC London News...'

Ah yes, I saw it -  the books on the Pizza Mopeds!

Had the riders taken their test? were the books still warm?...;-)

Dear All,

Here in Newham we did pilot such a service, 'BookExpress' a couple of years ago but found that the take-up was non-existent. We established a 'hot-line' for customers to phone in their requests and arranged for courier delivery at £3.00 for up to six item. (Not the true cost!) Despite having a lot of publicity, there was even an item on the early evening BBC London News, there was no take up for this service. The service was not extended beyond the pilot period of about 4-5 months.

Hi Helen,

The LLDA  is interested in this idea (see Mike Clarke's posting a few weeks/months ago and couldn't we charge for it as some kind of premium service in the same way as some authorities already do for BL ILLs?

The issue as you identify is the labour intensive overhead for packaging etc..roll on RFID

Best

Subject: Home delivery of books

Has anybody investigated using the postal service or couriers to deliver books and other items to people at home?  So people could request books online, have them posted or delivered to them, and post them back.  (I'm aware of home delivery services for people who are housebound, but I'm more interested in an offer for the general public.)

I suspect I know the answer to this already - that it would be too expensive to do and we couldn't charge for it, but I'd be interested to know if anybody has explored it in any depth.

Many thanks
