I am passing on an oral request from a friend, and apologise for the vagueness of my description. He is recently back from a tour of central Asia, including Persepolis, where he was intrigued to see in Darius' palace a set of pillars decorated with pictures which very closely resembled (to his eye at least) the emblems later associated with the writers of the four gospels -- winged lion, winged man, etc. (Forgive the 'etc' but this is not my field at all....) He would like to know how if at all the Darian imagery was adopted by Christians. I suspect the answer, if there is one, will begin "It is not that simple...". tia Susan [log in to unmask] ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: join medieval-religion YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: leave medieval-religion to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/medieval-religion.html ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: join medieval-religion YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: leave medieval-religion to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/medieval-religion.html
