Assessing the Archaeology of Warwickshire’s Aggregates Landscape

Salary 15,675-19,656 (Scale 4/5)


6 month contract (start date April 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter)


We are seeking an archaeologist with demonstrable enthusiasm for aerial photographs to provide specialist input to an assessment of Warwickshire’s archaeology in the aggregates producing areas, in order to enable us to give better advice about the impacts and mitigation of aggregates extraction, and to identify themes for future research. This post would be a suitable training opportunity for an archaeologist seeking to develop a career in aerial photographic interpretation


You will view and analyse aerial photographs in order to record archaeological features, and rectify and transcribe data digitally. A Degree in Archaeology or related subject, or equivalent qualification, a good knowledge of British archaeological sites of all periods, experience in the use of  archaeological databases and stereoscopic vision are all essential attributes of this post.  Ability to use a stereoscope will be tested at interview.


The post will be managed on a day to day basis by staff of the Aerial Survey and Investigation Team at the National Monuments Record, Swindon, although regular liaison with other Warwickshire Museum staff engaged on the Assessment project will be maintained
