It enabled representatives and experts from EU member states, third countries and the European Commission to discuss the issue of permanent access and the creation of electronic archiving systems for scientific publications and the participants agreed to a series of conclusions and recommendations. In order to maintain momentum from the conference and achieve maximum progress with these recommendations, the KB was asked to set up a European Task Force for Permanent Access, which started its work early in 2005. The Task Force first concentrated on composing a Research and Development Agenda, to be presented to the European Commission as a contribution to the discussions on the forthcoming Seventh Framework Programme. Secondly, it worked on developing proposals for a Strategic Action Plan for Permanent Access to the Records of Science and an proposed Alliance of European organisations committed to implementing it. The work and progress of the Taskforce was recently presented in December by its chair Dr Peter Tindemans to the European Research Infrastructures Conference in Nottingham. This presentation and the Taskforce documents on the Strategic Action Plan and the proposed Research Agenda have been finalised and made available online as follows: Creating a pragmatic pan-European framework for permanent access to the records of science <http://tfpa.kb.nl/TF-Permanent-Access-Nottingham-06-12-05.ppt> by Dr. Peter Tindemans, presentation to the European Research Infrastructures Conference Nottingham 06-12-05 (*Powerpoint Presentation*) Proposal for a Research & Development Programme, November 2005 <http://tfpa.kb.nl/Proposal%20Research%20and%20Development.doc> (*Word*) Strategic Action Programme 2006-2010, December 2005 <http://tfpa.kb.nl/Strategic%20Action%20Programme.pdf>(*PDF*) Further background information on the Taskforce and its membership is also available from the website hosted at http://tfpa.kb.nl/ ************************************************************************************* Neil Beagrie FRSA publications: www.beagrie.com BL/JISC Partnership Manager email: [log in to unmask] The British Library, urls: www.bl.uk 96 Euston Road, www.jisc.ac.uk London NW1 2DB Tel/Fax/Voicemail :+44 (0)709 2048179 ************************************************************************************* -- Neil Jacobs <[log in to unmask]> JISC Executive, Beacon House, Queens Road, Bristol, BS8 1QU +44(0)117 9545064 / 07768 040179
