APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING There are no votes in libraries Date: Tuesday 11 July 2006 Time: 6.30 pm Venue: The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, London EC1 Speaker: Brian M. Hall, The Library Campaign Libraries are in the news again: the forthcoming Local Government White Paper will focus on their role in neighbourhood renewal, while the Culture Minister has threatened to take over the running of public libraries where there are threats of widespread closures. Campaigning for, and promoting, libraries of all kinds is crucial to ensuring that they continue to provide the services users need. Brian is passionate about libraries and has pledged to lead from the front in the campaign to promote them. In this talk he will discuss the role of the Library Campaign and show how a pressure group can help maintain and develop key services. Brian Hall is Chairman of the Library Campaign and has spoken widely in the support of libraries. He is a CILIP Branch Councillor and was formerly Senior Lecturer in Information Studies at the University of Central England. CILIP in London evening meetings are free and open to all with a professional interest in the topic. Refreshments will be available afterwards.
