copyright for corporate information professionals

This introductory course provides a grounding in the key issues relating to
copyright for information services in the corporate sector. It provides a
potted overview of copyright basics, the current law and its application in
the commercial sector. It also considers how copyright law applies to
electronic products and to the internet.

There will be plenty of opportunity for delegates to ask questions and to
bring along examples of copyright problems that they have encountered and
would like some advice on; or to discuss practical situations that
information professionals regularly face and for which they want to check
that they are complying with the law.

training the trainer: preparing LIS professionals to train their users

Training has become an integral part of the job for many library and
information professionals, as more information becomes available and
end-users access more information from their desktops. The role of the LIS
team has expanded into facilitation, as they need to pass on their skills
and knowledge to colleagues. This two day course provides the background
necessary for you to prepare and deliver appropriate training for your
clients, whether the clients are members of your own team, trainee
solicitors, corporate financiers, health workers or managing directors.
Practical exercises will help you develop your confidence. The two days are
split so that delegates have the opportunity to prepare for the second day.

Strictly limited to 8 delegates.

it focuses exclusively on Internet Search Engines. Rather than having a
smaller number of search engines on the Internet there are more and more of
them available, all with their own particular strengths and weaknesses. In
order to get the most out of the Internet it is becoming increasingly
necessary to have a good in-depth understanding of how these work and which
one(s) to use in any given circumstance. Not only will participants be able

building capability in the conductive organisation

With the pervasive use of new technology, work now gets done through virtual
tools which allow for work to get done through unprecedented levels of
interaction and collaboration. This new reality is having a radical impact
on the principles of organizational performance: with 'conductivity',
organizations become 'networks of commitment'. As these networks become
more and more prevalent, work no longer follows the vertical axes of the
organization. The hierarchical structure is reinforced by the complementary
strength of a 'network structure'. While the former defines strategic
direction, allocates resources and orchestrates performance, the latter
becomes the platform for capability building at both the individual and
organizational levels.

This session will explore the following questions:

* What do we mean by 'knowledge' and how is it related to learning
and capability building?

* What 'works' and 'does not work' in leveraging knowledge for
greater performance?

* What are the respective roles of technology and culture in
knowledge exchange?

* What are the barriers to making better use of the technology
available?

* What are the elements of an effective knowledge strategy?

* What are the characteristics of a highly performing,
knowledge-enabled organization?
