Future support for Library Fellow Announced The Laser Foundation[i] <outbind://2/#_edn1> has confirmed that the support it has given to the Clore Leadership Programme will enable the appointment of a further dedicated public library fellow. The Clore Leadership Programme is an exciting initiative designed to help develop the skills and experience of potential leaders in the cultural sector. As the names were published of the twenty-seven Fellows who will be starting the programme this September, the Laser Foundation confirmed that its agreement with the Clore Leadership Programme allows for one further Fellowship for public library candidates. All Fellows on the Leadership Programme undertake an individually tailored programme of activities and experiences designed specifically to complement their abilities. The range of elements in the programme includes: a period of research on a specific project of practical value to each Fellow's area of work; tuition in business, management, personnel, presentation, marketing, professional and other skills; a period of secondment to a cultural organisation different from the one in which they are currently working; and two intensive two-week leadership courses, which will bring all the Fellows together. Each Fellow has an individual mentor (a senior figure from their chosen field), and access to coaching where appropriate. Bernard Naylor, Chair of the Laser Foundation, said "The Laser Foundation exists to support public libraries and to improve access to the wealth of knowledge that they contain. Strong, creative leadership helps people unlock all that libraries have to offer. We are delighted to be able to support talented leaders in this way and look forward to the appointment of a further public library Fellow." Ends. _____ [i] <outbind://2/#_ednref1> Notes for editors: The Laser Foundation is a grant making trust whose mission is to improve library facilities available to the public. Recent recipients of grants have included Reading Borough Libraries (to build a new sensory children's library and train staff), Senate House Library (to make archives more accessible to public library users) and Price Waterhouse Coopers (to undertake a ground-breaking study into how public libraries can measure and demonstrate their impact). This is the first time that the Laser Foundation has sponsored a Clore Foundation Fellow.
