The Clinical Effectiveness Unit is a collaboration between the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Its remit is to carry out national audits, develop audit methodologies, and produce evidence on clinical and cost effectiveness. It is also involved in the development of clinical guidelines through its input in the NICE Collaborating Centre for Acute Care.

The UK Cardiothoracic Transplant Audit and the UK and Ireland Liver Transplant Audit evaluate the outcome after transplant services in the UK. Their aim is to analyse the outcome of transplantation for different categories of patients, and for different centres taking account of variations in "case-mix".

For these Audits, we are seeking a statistician who will be part of multidisciplinary team. The candidate will be responsible for the analysis of the data, reporting the findings of the audit, co-ordinating data collection, validating the central database, and assessing the implications of the findings for transplant practice and policy. There will also be the opportunity to participate in other large scale research projects of the CEU, such as statistical modelling for case-mix adjustment, multilevel modelling, and continuous outcome monitoring.

Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in statistics, epidemiology or a related discipline. Good verbal and written communication skills, and enthusiasm for research are essential. Experience with handling large databases, and knowledge of Stata would be advantageous.

The initial contract is for a year but it may be extended depending on funding.
