medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Origin of the query and statement of thanks (re-posted, with permission, from the list on which this first arose): You all might be interested in the origins of my question on the visibility of the Tree of Jesse in Chartres. I'm not a medievalist, but I teach a bit in the area, and right now I'm teaching courses on Understanding Visual Art. In Chapter One of our text (ArtForms by Preble) the author informs us that the window falls into the category of "Art for Information" in that it functioned as, you guessed it, a bible for the poor. I finally decided to get some information from some experts (that's why I lurk here) and I have truly been repaid here. If it's okay, I'm going to put the comments together in brief form for the students' enlightenment. Thanks again.
