medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture May I ask whether anyone on the list is aware of any independent scholars in the medieval studies or history fields who are finding success in publishing books? I finished a Ph.D in history at Cornell in 2003 and am currently not employed by choice. Having been encouraged by my graduate advisors, this spring I will be submitting to publishers my dissertation on Franciscan devotion to St. Joseph. Although it does not seem very difficult for independent scholars to have articles accepted, I am wondering if book-length projects are taken less seriously if authored by scholars who do not hold academic positions. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this?
