Dear Hilde, David & Susanne,

Thank you so much for your very interesting message and query.  I wonder if the following is of interest.

In the last 14 years, my colleagues and I of Creative Leaps International have applied our arts-based thinking and learning methodologies across a wide spectrum of issues and topics, but most especially toward the kindred topics of creativity, innovation and leadership development.  We have done this most often in conjunction with organizations such as the Center for Creative Leadership, the Center for Excellence in Municipal Management (WDC), the Association for Managers of Innovation, the International Creativity and Innovation Networking Conferences, among others.  The creative and innovative fires of the arts, along with the mind processes they set in motion, as I am sure you know, are increasingly imported into the business sector to catalyze innovation and personal/organizational transformation.  My good friend, Miha Pogacnik, works powerfully in this exciting new domain as well.  Another of our ACORN members, Lotte Darso, recently documented several case studies of these arts applications in her book ARTFUL CREATION: TALES OF THE ARTS IN BUSINESS (Learning Lab Denmark).  Our own Creative Leaps International is one of the case studies.  I suggest that these applications of the arts are themselves innovations (first order) in the field of innovation development which promotes innovation (second order) in a host of disperate arenas.  These stories of innovation (both first and second order) and the emerging theories of the emotional and cognitive processes which underlie them may be of interest in the context of your project.

I look forward to hearing from you and to getting better acquainted.

With appreciation and kind regards,

John

Subject: Search for international innovation stories

Dear friends

I am writing to you all in connection with a new Masters programme we (David Barry, Susanne Kandrup and I) are developing here at Learning Lab Denmark. It is called the Master in Strategic Innovation, Leadership and Knowledge creation (SILK).  It is not an MBA - the focus is on complex problem solving, innovative leadership, developing new ideas within a relational context, finding sustainable and lifeful solutions rather than general business management. “The primary purpose of the masters is to develop highly skilled, innovative leaders who are adept at working with a wide array of complex and important problems. The masters will focus on great innovations that live beyond themselves, creating a host of desirable second-order effects. They inspire and excite, causing us to hope, imagine, and act in new and fruitful ways. Creating and implementing such innovations requires complex ‘worldly’ processes that join sophisticated problem solving techniques with advanced leadership. Such processes necessarily work with power & politics, cultures & contexts, aesthetics & ethics in full-spectrum and lifeful ways.”  (draft brochure)

We would like to ask for a few minutes of your time. We are working on our communication and marketing material and in connection with this we are looking for information on:

1.  key influencers in the innovation area/debate today internationally (it can be institutions, media or individuals (experts, scientists). Who is setting the agenda in the debate on innovation? And which areas within the innovation debate are getting the most attention in the media?

2. true stories/cases on innovations that you think connects with our focus at SILK. Also think about here: what did innovation do for the company's business?

We hope that you will have a few minutes to think about this and get back to me ([log in to unmask]). Any thoughts & suggestions will be gratefully received. We very much appreciate your effort.

Warm regards,

Hilde, David & Susanne
