The A3 bone atlas I referred to in my last message was in fact Atlas Osteologique pour servir a l'identification des Mammiferes du Quaternaire by L. Pales, C. Lambert and M-A. Garcia, 1981 (an amazing piece of work, but it doesn't mention gazelles). I don't know if the Helmer and Rocheteau publication is similarly shaped. Apologies for any confusion. In particular, I am thinking of the case of highly fragmented bone assemblages which typically occur in Middle Eastern contexts. Has anyone made or published drawings showing these distinctions? I am aware of much of the Ovis vs. Capra osteological literature but have not found much on the morphology of gazelle skeletons. Can anyone steer me towards any useful references? Also, does anyone have a good image of a gazelle skeleton (preferably Gazella subgutturosa), that they might be willing to share?
