Is it a military site? There is nothing intrinsically unlikely in finding an oriental horse and/or hound at such a site since the equestrian or senatorial officers were very much on the move. They usually only held a command for 3-4 years and there was a rule that no officer could hold more than two posts in the same province to prevent provincial governors from forming personal followings.
