Freelance Opportunity Creating new school/teacher materials for use in our Life and Earth Galleries in the Natural History Museum The Natural History Museum is seeking freelance consultants to develop new and innovative school/teacher materials for use in our galleries. The galleries contain exhibits relating to both earth and life sciences and the materials will comprise of pupil discovery guides, teacher gallery guides and teacher-led gallery trails. The target audience is for children in school groups aged between 4 to 18, teachers of primary pupils and secondary science and geography teachers. We would welcome external consultants from either a primary science specialism or from a secondary science and geography background, or both. The resources will be responsive to user's needs and will enhance the enjoyment and understanding of the different galleries to pupils and teachers. This will involve devising new materials for both teachers and pupils and also adapting existing information resources for inclusion. The consultant(s) will be required to demonstrate: * An excellent track record in the development of science and geography themed resources for primary and/or secondary pupils and their teachers * Comprehensive and up-to-date familiarisation and understanding of the primary and/or secondary science and geography curricula within English and Welsh schools * An understanding of the potential of museum objects and interactive exhibits to support and add value to science teaching and learning * An understanding of how written resources can be fun We are seeking to appoint a consultant or consultants in January 2006.
