Dear All, The report of the Working Group of the U.N. disability convention is now available at the following; http://www.un.org/esa/socdev/enable/rights/ahcwgreport.htm The WG has prepared the draft convention, which will be the basis for the negotiations at the Third Ad Hoc Committee late May. It was historic that so many NGO representatives, mostly disabled people, were accepted as the full speaking members of the WG. NGO representatives consisted 30 per cent of the total membership. It was truly exciting. If you are interested in the detailed discussions, please refer to the Landmine Surviviors Networ' site, which has daily summaries. http://www.rightsforall.org/updates2004.php LSN has been doing a great job. Best regards. NAGASE Osamu University of Tokyo P.S. The accessibility is an important consideration for us in disability studies in Japan as well. Our books on disability studies have been available in an electronic form. We are also planning the next conference and provision of sign language interpretation and real time captioning as well as accessible materials is our major challenge, in the financial and logistical sense. ________________End of message______________________ Archives and tools for the Disability-Research Discussion List are now located at: www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/disability-research.html You can JOIN or LEAVE the list from this web page.
