Steve is the editor of the popular FOI website, "Freedom of Information Act Blog" (http://foia.blogspot.com ) 2.30 pm Mohamed Hans Lead Procurement Adviser, CIPFA Procurement and Commissioning Forum OPDM National Procurement Strategy, Tendering Processes and FOI. This session will provide an update on recent OPDM National Procurement Strategy, particularly as it relates to tendering and how the Freedom of Information Act will impact on this. It will include discussion of confidentiality issues and practical hints on get your procurement processes right before 1st January 2005. 3:00pm Tim Turner Data Protection Officer, Wigan Council FOI Exemptions: Which organizations and what information will they cover? This session will cover FOI exemptions in detail - how they might work, which organizations they apply to and the types of information which in practice might be disclosed. It will also discuss how public authorities might choose to apply the public interest test. 3:45pm Heather Brooke Author of 'Your Right to Know', a practitioner's handbook that examines UK government secrecy and how to overcome it using the FOIA and other access laws. FOI, the Media and Building Trust with a Sceptical Public This session will discuss the FOI Act and other access laws as a means of building trust with a skeptical public. The way a public authority decides to handle a Freedom of Information or other public access request will have direct consequences on its public profile. The potential for negative publicity in the local and/or national media is great, but there are also many opportunities to shine for those organizations which are open and transparent.
