I would like to make a special plea here: if anyone is
interested in presenting a paper comparing Christopher with
dog- or animal-headed beings in other religions, please
conside doing so for the 2003 medieval-religion session at
Kalamazoo on "Medieval Religions: Christians, Jews,
Muslims, and Others in Comparative Perspective."  If you
wish to do this, or submit a paper on another aspect of the
