Dear colleagues, We are happy to invite you to the 16th discussion forum on Life Cycle Assessment that will take place April 10th 2002 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne. The forum will focus on the use of Input Output methods in life cycle assessment. IO-LCA is a method based on the monetary flows induced in the economy and through all the supply chain by a product, process or activity. Combined with environmental emissions, it can provide a quick evaluation of a LCA with the advantage of taking into account the whole economic system. The basic of the Input Output method will be introduced and the evolution towards hybrid methods will be described. The forum is divided into two plenary and two short presentations sessions. Main speakers will be Prof. Greg Norris (Harvard University), Sangwon Suh (CML), Prof. Gabrielle Antille Gaillard (University of Geneva) and Torsten Marheineke (University of Stuttgart). Please note in addition, for those interested, that you have the possibility to present a case study (5 min. presentation and one poster). Application forms are available on: gecos.epfl.ch/lcsystems For your information, two other discussion forums on LCA will be held in Zürich this year, their subjects are: - DF17: Der Zukunftsaspekt in Ökobilanzen: Szenarioanalyse? - DF18: Eco-Labelling und Ökobilanzen Short course on Input Output You will also find on the web site an application form for a short course (learn practice) on Input Output environmental life cycle assessment. This short course will take place the 11th of April at the EPFL and will be given by Prof. Olivier Jolliet, Prof. Greg Norris and Sangwon Suh.
