medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture St Petrus Damiani, abbott of Fonte Avellana, was an important figure in the historical context of the Byzantine schism (1057), with Pope Stephen IX, and Humbert of Silva Candida. Fonte Avellana is the most famous Marches monastery still today, a monastic spirituality center for pilgrims and scholars, on the mountain Catria slopes (at 75 Km from my town). The documents written in the scriptorium are very important for the history of Marches in the Middle Age, and St Peter Damiani remains the most famous disciple of St. Romualdo, founder of Camaldolesi Order. For a strange history coincidence, the Camaldolesi rule is very near at the hermits life of the eastern monks at Mt Athos.
