Thanks Doug for letting me know it worked. I'm glad it did.

Chris,

>i'm wondering in what ways you mean 'This Poem' is primarily a performance
>piece. What kinds of performances?

Well, despite all the arguments about poetry having its origin in the
spoken word, being composed for the ear and so on, I still reckon that
some poems work better in performance than others and others work better
on the page. For example, some poems have very intricate relationships
between their parts, so that you really need to go back to compare them
in order to appreciate them properly. Poems like that are very difficult
for someone to get to grips with if they just hear them spoken, once.

"This poem" isn't like that, and an audience (especially if it consists
of people who know something about poetry, and the saw about "showing
rather than telling") will easily get the point, and the joke. I'm
talking about the kinds of performances where you stand in front of some
people and read them your poems and if you're lucky they like some of
them and laugh at the funny ones.

Best,
