Summary below

UK Preparations for Earth Summit 2002: The National & Global Dimensions
The London School of Economics, Tuesday 20 March 2001.

UNED UK is a unique multi-stakeholder forum with members from business,
trade unions, local government, NGOs, and other groups operating both in the
UK and internationally.

The March 20 conference offers an opportunity for stakeholders in
sustainable development to participate in the preparation of the UK agenda
for the World Summit 2002. There will be opportunity to review the
prospects and goals of the Summit process, assess achievements since the
1992 Rio Summit and explore where the UK should be domestically and globally
by the time of the Earth Summit 2002. We are particularly interested in
facilitating consensus agreement and defining conflict areas in these five
key sectors;

* Energy
* Sustainable cities and communities
* Sustainable consumption and production
* UK in the wider world
* Biodiversity and Natural Resources Conservation

The UK is already playing a prominent and valuable part in preparing the
agenda for Earth Summit 2002. The Prime Minister Tony Blair MP recently
gave a speech to a business and NGO audience, in which he became the first
world leader to pledge his intention to attend Earth Summit 2002.

We do hope that you or a representative of your organisation will be able to
attend the March 20 Conference.
