CALL FOR PAPERS 1st International conference hosted by The Centre for Learning and Teaching in Art & Design (cltad) supported by ADC-LTSN and ELIA Enhancing Curricula: exploring effective curricula practices in art, design and communication in Higher Education 10th - 12th April 2002 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) London, UK ************************************************** The aim of the conference is to bring together teachers of art and design who have a responsibility for and/or who are interested in the education of post-compulsory art and design students and who wish to share their views on what issues a future curriculum should address and how it might be shaped. The conference is designed to address particular themes through three significant perspectives. Themes: 1 What is an effective curriculum? 2 What is effective learning and teaching within the curriculum? 3 How can we use educational technology effectively within the curriculum? 4 What is the role and function of personal and professional development within the curriculum? The following perspectives are intended to reflect key stages in an institution's commitment to lifelong learning. Perspectives: A Pre-entry and prior experiential learning Contributions are encouraged from those who teach students who are preparing for undergraduate study. Studies from specialist 'foundation' programmes and access courses for mature students are particularly welcome. B The undergraduate experience Contributions are encouraged from those who are developing approaches to curriculum design which attempt to address the challenges posed by conceptions of the subject in the future and its place in society. C The postgraduate and professional world Contributions are encouraged from those who are preparing students for work in an ever changing world. Contributions are also welcome from employers of art and design students. Inevitably, some papers will be investigating the boundaries of or relationships between these perspectives. ********************************************************************* criteria for sessions: papers: (45 minutes) Contributors can present * reports of completed research studies * case studies on innovative curriculum design Papers should indicate theoretical research frameworks and research methodologies used. The meaning and possible significance of the research findings should be discussed. No more than 25 mins will be used for presentation leaving the remaining time for discussion and questions. workshops: (90 minutes) Workshops should be activity-based sessions around issues and subjects. (E.g. Using educational technologies to support groupwork.) Sessions should be interactive and it is possible that two workshops topics, could be run in one session, if the approach is complementary. work in practice: (45 minutes) Contributors are asked to make presentations of their practice, including on-going research.
