THERMOCALC Workshop: Calculating Metamorphic
Phase Equilibria
Roger Powell (with assistance from Chris Carson, Yale University)
will give a 2.5-day THERMOCALC Workshop: Calculating Metamorphic
Phase Equilibria (see below for details of content) immediately before
the Goldschmidt Conference. You do not have to be attending the
Goldschmidt Conference to participate in this informal workshop.
The workshop will run all day on 17-18 May and on the morning of 19 May
2001 on the campus at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Following
the workshop, transport from the Virginia Tech campus to the Homestead
will be arranged for Goldschmidt attendees as necessary (contact Bob
Tracy before the workshop). The course will likely be limited to 25
participants due to available computer lab space. The fee for the
workshop will be $100 (accommodation and meals at participant expense). A
block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Red Lion Inn in
Blacksburg, Virginia (~1 mile from campus).
To participate in the workshop you need to:
1. Inform Mike Brown by e-mail and, after your place has been confirmed
by him, pay the $100 fee before 31 March 2001 [check payable to
University of Maryland (NOT Mike Brown); mail to Mike Brown at the
address at the end of this e-mail], after 1 April wait-listed persons
will be offered places for which payment has not been received or
arranged;
2. Book a room for 3 nights (May 16-18) at the Best Western by April
25th to get the
workshop rate [phone (int+) 540-552-7700 for reservations and mention the
"Geology Short Course" block of rooms at $60 per night per
double room (this is a reduced rate, the cut-off date for holding the
rooms is three weeks ahead, or April 25th; if you need to arrange a
roommate to share with, contact Bob Tracy (Robert Tracy
<[log in to unmask]>),
who will act as a clearing house].
