Interim Saints - March 12th

PETER, GORGONIUS, DOROTHEUS, MAXIMA, and others, martyrs (A.D. 302)

The Emperor Diocletian having discovered that Peter, one of his
officers of the bed-chamber, was a Christian, ordered him to be
tortured.  Then Gorgonius and Dorotheus, two other officers, filled
with indignation, exclaimed, "Why, sire, dost thou thus torment Peter
for what we all profess in our hearts?"  The emperor at once ordered
them to execution, together with Migdo, a priest, and many other
Christians . . .

PAUL OF LEON, bishop and confessor (A.D. 573)

Paul, son of a Welsh prince, was a disciple of S. Iltut, along with S.
Samson and Gildas.

GREGORY THE GREAT, pope and doctor.

The Apostle of the English.  "S. Gregory the Great will be an
everlasting honour to the Benedictine Order and to the Papacy"
(Baring-Gould).  Discuss.

MURAN, abbot (7th cent)

S. Muran was the son of Feredach, of the noble race of the O'Neills,
and was abbot of Fathinis, in the penisula of Inis-coguin, five miles
from Derry.

FINA, virgin (A.D. 1253)

S. Fina was the daughter of very poor parents at S. Geminiani, in
Tuscany.
