This is very interesting. According to the labs doing the apatite datings of incinerated bone the carbon that is dated comes from carbon dioxid in the atmosphere around the fire, not so much the fuel or bones themself. Therefore seal or other marine bones give terrestrial values for 13-C. I have been advised to only use completely white-burned bones in order to avoid carbon from other sources than the air around the fire. The case you relate to is important to follow up. I will check for similar data in our dating series.
