Dear list members,

Northumbria University’s School of Design is advertising multiple fully-funded PhD studentships to start in October 2019. There are three different routes to applying for a studentship with us - please do pass these on to anyone you know who may be interested in these opportunities:

1, We have two specific projects for interested applicants to apply for (deadline 25th January 2019):

** Creative and Expressive Approaches to Investigating Personal Visual Data Literacy: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/creative-and-expressive-approaches-to-investigating-personal-visual-data-literacy-advert-reference-rdf19-des-briggs/?p104210

**Designing Interoperable Web Tools for Group Decision Making on Personal Health Data Sharing: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/project/designing-interoperable-web-tools-for-group-decision-making-on-personal-health-data-sharing-advert-reference-rdf19-des-durrant/?p104211

2, We have a more open call around 8 design research topics. Interested applicants are advised to get in contact with me (mailto:[log in to unmask]) in the first instance, after which they will be linked with potential supervisors (deadline 25th January 2019). The eight topics areas are:

** Creative digital methods and the humanities
** Resilient and responsible fashion systems
** Design fiction and storytelling for future retail
** Design-facilitated innovation in organisations
** Using crowdsourcing to enhance product quality
** Materiality and Immersive Technologies
** Design-led approaches to stubborn social problems
** Design methods, theories and practices

More detail about the topic areas can be found on the advert: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/programme/department-of-design/?p4227

3, Finally, studentships can be funded via the AHRC Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership, which Northumbria is a partner in (deadline 9th January 2019). This funding comes with a number of benefits for applicants, including 4 years of funding (instead of 3), additional resources for training and placements, and both full-time and part-time options. This call is applicant led, where potential students propose their own PhD topic individually or in collaboration with a potential supervisor. Again, please contact me (mailto:[log in to unmask]) in the first instance.

Full details for Northern Bridge can be found here: http://www.northernbridge.ac.uk/ and there is an advert on FindAPhD as well here: https://www.findaphd.com/phds/program/funded-arts-and-humanities-studentships-at-northumbria-university-via-the-northern-bridge-consortium-doctoral-training-partnership/?i180p4230

Best wishes,
John.
